Co-habitation

Co-habitation

In the event of separation, the rights of co-habitants can differ significantly from those of divorcing couples, even though the issues are often exactly the same.

The law does not recognise ‘common-law spouses’, and living together rather than marrying can represent a financial disaster for the dependent cohabitee, upon separation.

As such, cohabitees are obliged to turn to complex and often archaic principles of law to resolve financial matters. Equally, where there are children involved, the father may find that he does not share Parental Responsibility with the mother.

Thankfully, we can offer practical and pragmatic advice to resolve these matters for you.
