It must be the sleep deprivation, because it has never happened to me before; I have to confess that I am hooked on X Factor. Not the car crash TV of the auditions you understand, which for me have redefined the term ‘toe-curling’. No, I am really enjoying the ‘last 10’ or whatever marketing phrase they thought up for the bit where only the talented people were left (and I include Wagner in that…).
There really are some very talented people left in the competition and I don’t remember this last year (or for that matter in the years before that). By the way my tip for the winner is Rebecca, which is probably the only thing I share with Boris Becker. What amazes me, though, is that there are still people like this out there with who haven’t managed to make it on to one of these shows already, because just as a few years ago you couldn’t move for medical documentaries, now we do not seem able to move for shows demonstrating our hidden talents or discovering the next singing/dancing/etc superstar.
Having said that, this series does seem to have been mired in more than its fair share of controversy. I have lost count of the number of times it has been alleged that it is rigged (which, like cheating, seems to inspire our wrath like nothing else). Still, all that controversy must be good for the ratings……
