Rachel Crookes is the Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Debt Recovery departments in our Leeds office.
Rachel joined the firm from international law firm DLA Piper where she was an associate. She qualified as a solicitor in 2004.
Born in Sheffield Rachel studied for her LLB at the University of Hull and then The College of Law, York.
Rachel has been head of a civil fraud team, handled multi million pound breach of contract disputes – involving companies based in the UK and abroad – as well as theft of confidential information and professional negligence claims – the latter on behalf of a number of mortgage lenders.
She has an impressive record of working with national companies and dealing with a wide range of disputes and litigation.
Rachel has acted for many companies including steel manufacturers, national retailers and financial organisations.
She has also acted in numerous claims relating to faulty goods (both claimant and defendant) - including acting for a national car dealership.
Rachel is experienced in civil fraud claims, recently acting for a client in uncovering an employee fraud involving over £1m. The employee’s computer was forensically imaged to identify evidence linking it to the fraud, and Rachel obtained a court order against the employee’s bank compelling to disclose details of other parties to whom the money had been transferred. Rachel then obtained a separate court order freezing the employee’s assets, then judgment against the employee for the client’s claim, recovering properties, bank balances, pension funds and vehicles in part satisfaction of it as well as agreeing a repayment schedule with a third party. Through working closely with the police Rachel also helped ensure the employee’s conviction for several serious offences resulting in a long prison sentence.
