Sarah has been a Solicitor since 2001 and joined our litigation and dispute resolution department in 2010 following her move from the Isle of Man where she had been an Advocate and partner in a leading legal practice for many years.
She has a great wealth of experience in preparing and appearing in complex litigation and dispute resolution matters and has been involved in both British Isles and international legal proceedings. Sarah has recently been awarded the Higher Rights of Audience Qualification by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and can now appear in the higher civil courts in England and Wales.
Her areas of interest and expertise include company and shareholder disputes, Trust and Will disputes, professional negligence and property litigation. She is a member of the Property Litigation Association.
Sarah is from Worksop in Nottinghamshire and returned in 2010 following a 17 year absence, during which time she studied at King’s College London and the College of Law in York and practised as an Isle of Man Advocate for 10 years. Whilst in the Isle of Man, she acted for a range of commercial clients, including local government, financial institutions and corporate service providers.
Sarah acted for a client with a global customer base who had been served with a statutory demand for circa €3.5 million, followed by High Court proceedings for €3.6 million in respect of goods supplied to it in a European country. Sarah successfully opposed the statutory demand, then co-ordinated the client’s defence and counterclaim, which raised issues of foreign law and jurisdiction and required Sarah to work closely with foreign lawyers of various disciplines. The opponent’s claim was discontinued and the order for costs obtained for the client was then used to obtain judgment in the opponent’s home court in Hong Kong. When the claim was later brought again in a different jurisdiction, the opponent this time also applying for a worldwide injunction, Sarah helped the client to find suitable local lawyers who could respond immediately. The client later said that Sarah’s professionalism had helped its personnel to deal with what happened and that Sarah made it easier to deal with matters, describing her as “a fantastic person to work with” whom it would “highly recommend.”
