A five-a-side football tournament in aid of St Luke’s Hospice has boosted the charity’s fundraising goals by £760.

Football Challenge TeamThe lively matches, organised by hlw Keeble Hawson’s solicitors and paralegals, saw eight teams doing battle for the charity which strives to deliver the best possible palliative care in Sheffield for people over 18 who are terminally ill.

Participating teams also comprised St Luke’s Hospice; chartered accountants BHP, Hawsons Chartered Accountants, Hart Shaw Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers; property regeneration company, Harworth Group; commercial printer, B&B Press and DLA Piper.

The matches kicked off at the Goodwin Sports Centre in Sheffield and footballs were generously provided by KTR Couplings Ltd.

hlw Keeble Hawson fielded trainees, James Redshaw, Syed Islam, Chris Thornton, and Richard Barrett; paralegal, Jennifer Knibbs and future trainee, John Warburton. Despite a dazzling display of furious footwork, they failed to reach the final, where BHP beat Hawsons 2 – 1. A post-tournament dinner at the Nottingham House pub went down a treat with the participants.

Michele Todd, partner and head of hlw Keeble Hawson’s charity sector group, said: “This was a tremendous effort and everyone who took part is a winner. Special thanks go to our fantastic solicitors and paralegals for hosting the challenge for this inspirational charity.”

The competition is the latest in a series of fundraisers spearheaded by hlw Keeble Hawson’s young lawyers – bringing funds raised for St Luke’s to date to £2,400.
